In line with its commitment to sustainability and productive responsibility, during the first half of 2020 Multiexport Foods put a definitive end to its salmon production in the Rupanco and Llanquihue lakes. In the latter it had two farming centers, one in Montealegre and the other in Bah\u00eda Cox, with an annual production of 250 tons each. The Rupanco operation had an annual production of 500 tons.<\/p>\n
With this action, the salmon company materialized the promise acquired in 2019, when it announced the closure of its centers in the lakes of southern Chile with the aim of advancing in the sustainability of its operations and the availability of technological resources to operate its entire smolt production in land-based fish farms, as well as those of Coho salmon outside lake waters.<\/p>\n
“We are convinced that the future success of our industry must go hand in hand with making this a sustainable activity over time, which has to be compatible with the protection of environmental resources and the conservation of the quality of the ecosystems where it is located, as well as being a relevant actor that supports and contributes to the development of local communities”, said Francisco Lobos, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager of Multiexport Foods.<\/p>\n
Lobos added that “we continually carry out different actions that show our commitment with the communities and the environment. Specifically through the decision to leave Chile’s lakes, we are contributing to the improvement of the tourist attractions and welfare for the inhabitants of the Llanquihue and Rupanco lakes”.<\/p>\n
Founded in 1987, Multiexport Foods is one of the main salmon producing companies in Chile.
